From the millionaire entrepreneur and New York Times best-selling author of The 10X Rule comes a bold and contrarian wake-up call for anyone truly ready for success. Before Grant Cardone built five successful companies (and counting), became a multimillionaire, and wrote best-selling books, he was broke, jobless, and drug-addicted. Grant had grown up with big dreams, but friends and family told him to be more reasonable and less demanding. If he played by the rules, they said, he could enjoy everyone else´s version of middle class success. But when he tried it their way, he hit rock bottom. Then he tried the opposite approach. He said no to the haters and naysayers and said yes to his burning, outrageous, animal obsession. He reclaimed his obsession with wanting to be a business rock star, a super salesman, a huge philanthropist. He wanted to live in a mansion and even own an airplane. Obsession made all of his wildest dreams come true. And it can help you achieve massive success too. As Grant says, we´re in the middle of an epidemic of average. The conventional wisdom is to seek balance and take it easy. But that has really just given us an excuse to be unexceptional. If you want real success, you have to know how to harness your obsession to rocket to the top. This book will give you the inspiration and tools to break out of your cocoon of mediocrity and achieve your craziest dreams. Grant will teach you how to: Set crazy goals - and reach them, every single day Feed the beast: when you value money and spend it on the right things, you get more of it Shut down the doubters - and use your haters as fuel 1. Summary of Grunt by Mary Roach | Includes Analysis Preview: Mary Roach´s Grunt: The Curious Science of Humans Aat War examines technological and medical research in the military. Each chapter focuses on a different topic - for example, diarrhea among soldiers - and then presents historical background, interviews with scientists and affected military personnel, and possible solutions to the problem. Military research in both news accounts and films is usually presented as a matter of technology and combat equipment, such as faster airplanes, better bombs, and deadlier weapons. Much military research, however, is devoted to finding ways to protect soldiers or to help them cope in the aftermath of injury. For instance, researchers work constantly to develop clothing fabrics that will keep soldiers cool while still providing camouflage - a difficult task because the black in camouflage absorbs heat. Doctors and surgeons constantly develop new ways to address injuries from bombs and gunshots. They have made advances in reconstructive genital surgery and even some strides towards successful penis transplants.... In the midst of a wartime evacuation, a British airplane crashes on or near an isolated island in a remote region of the Pacific Ocean. The only survivors are boys in their middle childhood or preadolescence. Two boys - the fair-haired Ralph and an overweight, bespectacled boy nicknamed ´´Piggy´´ - find a conch, which Ralph uses as a horn to convene all the survivors to one area. Ralph is optimistic, believing that grown-ups will come to rescue them but Piggy realizes the need to organize: (´´put first things first and act proper´´). Because Ralph appears responsible for bringing all the survivors together, he immediately commands some authority over the other boys and is quickly elected their ´´chief´´. He does not receive the votes of the members of a boys´ choir, led by the red-headed Jack Merridew, although he allows the choir boys to form a separate clique of hunters. Ralph establishes three primary policies: to have fun, to survive, and to constantly maintain a smoke signal that could alert passing ships to their presence on the island and thus rescue them. The boys establish a form of democracy by declaring that whoever holds the conch shall also be able to speak at their formal gatherings and receive the attentive silence of the larger group. Jack organizes his choir into a hunting party responsible for discovering a food source. Ralph, Jack, and a quiet, dreamy boy named Simon soon form a loose triumvirate of leaders with Ralph as the ultimate authority. Upon inspection of the island, the three determine that it has fruit and wild pigs for food. The boys also use Piggy´s spectacles to create a fire. Though he is Ralph´s only real confidant, Piggy is quickly made into an outcast by his fellow ´´biguns´´ (older boys) and becomes an unwilling source of laughs for the other children while being hated by Jack. Simon, in addition to supervising the project of constructing shelters, feels an instinctive need to protect the ´´littluns´´ (younger boys). 1. Language: English. Narrator: JD Kelly. This is a book summary of Smarter Faster Better by Charles Duhigg. Description: From the author of the New York Times best-selling phenomenon The Power of Habit comes a fascinating new book that explores the science of productivity and why, in today´s world, managing how you think - rather than what you think - can transform your life. At the core of Smarter Faster Better are eight key concepts - from motivation and goal setting to focus and decision making - that explain why some people and companies get so much done. Drawing on the latest findings in neuroscience, psychology, and behavioral economics - as well as the experiences of CEOs, educational reformers, four-star generals, FBI agents, airplane pilots, and Broadway songwriters - this painstakingly researched book explains that the most productive people, companies, and organizations don´t merely act differently. They view the world, and their choices, in profoundly different ways. A young woman drops out of a PhD program and starts playing poker. By training herself to envision contradictory futures, she learns to anticipate her opponents´ missteps - and becomes one of the most successful players in the world. A group of data scientists at Google embark on a four-year study of how the best teams function and find that how a group interacts is more important than who is in the group - a principle, it turns out, that also helps explain why Saturday Night Live became a hit. A Marine Corps general, faced with low morale among recruits, reimagines boot camp - and discovers that instilling a ´´bias toward action´´ can turn even the most directionless teenagers into self-motivating achievers. 1. This is a summary of Charles Duhigg´s Smarter Faster Better: The Secrets of Being Productive in Life and Business From the author of The Power of Habit comes a fascinating book that explores the science of productivity, and why, in today´s world, managing how you think - rather than what you think - can transform your life. At the core of Smarter Faster Better are eight concepts - from motivation and goal setting to focus and decision making - that explain why some people and companies get so much done. They know that productivity relies on making certain choices. The way we frame our daily decisions; the big ambitions we embrace and the easy goals we ignore; the cultures we establish as leaders to drive innovation; the way we interact with data: These are the things that separate the merely busy from the genuinely productive. In The Power of Habit, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Charles Duhigg explained why we do what we do. In Smarter Faster Better, he applies the same relentless curiosity, deep reporting, and rich storytelling to explain how we can improve at the things we do. It´s a groundbreaking exploration of the science of productivity, one that can help anyone learn to succeed with less stress and struggle, and to get more done without sacrificing what we care about most - to become smarter, faster, and better at everything we do. 1.
