This volume analyzes real in-flight communications to explain the dynamics of knowledge construction. With the use of a grounded theory approach, real-life scenarios for in-depth interviews with aviation informants were developed and analyzed using discourse analysis. The study revealed aspects of tacit knowledge and expertise behavior that develop in mission-critical environments. Among the findings, the author discovered:- Silence is an interactional element and a substantial contributing factor to both completed flights and aviation incidents/accidents- Hesitation is an early reaction when situational awareness is lacking- The aviation sub-cultures contain several distinct micro-cultures which affect professional responsibility and decision making in micro-environments- Human errors should be acknowledged, discussed and repaired by all actors of the flight model- Non-verbal communication in institutional settings and mediated environments is instrumental to safe and efficient operationsThe results suggest fruitful applications of theory to explore how knowledge is generated in highly structured, high-risk organizational environments, such as hospitals, nuclear plants, battlefields and crisis and disaster locations.Katerinakis explains the emergent knowledge elements in communication command with messages "spoken-heard-understood-applied," from multiple stakeholders... The interplay of theory and real-flight examples, with key interlocutors, creates a valuable narrative both for the expert reader and the lay-person interested in the insights of hospitals, nuclear plants, battlefields, safety and rescue systems, and crisis and disaster locations.Ilias Panagopoulos, PhDCommand Fighter Pilot, Col (Ret)Senior Trainer, Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA) Training OrganisationSafety Manager, NATO Airlift Management ProgrammeIn this path-breaking work, Theodore Katerinakis brings the study of human communication to the airplane cockpit as a knowledge environment. Toward that end, drawing on his own experience with the Air Force and Aviation Authorities and interviews with flight controllers and scores of pilots, Katerinakis both builds on moves beyond human factors research and ecological psychology... It is a work of theoretical value across disciplines and organizational settings and of practical importance as well. His lively narrative adds to translational research by translating knowledge or evidence into action in mission-critical systems.Douglas V. 'This is state-of-the-art alternate history, nothing less.'-Publishers Weekly (starred review) When the Great War engulfed Europe in 1914, the United States and the Confederate States of America, bitter enemies for five decades, entered the fray on opposite sides: the United States aligned with the newly strong Germany, while the Confederacy joined forces with their longtime allies, Britain and France. But it soon became clear to both sides that this fight would be different-that war itself would never be the same again. For this was to be a protracted, global conflict waged with new and chillingly efficient innovations-the machine gun, the airplane, poison gas, and trench warfare. Across the Americas, the fighting raged like wildfire on multiple and far-flung fronts. As President Theodore Roosevelt rallied the diverse ethnic groups of the northern states-Irish and Italians, Mormons and Jews-Confederate President Woodrow Wilson struggled to hold together a Confederacy still beset by ignorance, prejudice, and class divisions. And as the war thundered on, southern blacks, oppressed for generations, found themselves fatefully drawn into a climactic confrontation . . .

Six women with one thing in common: Complete surrender. These six standalone stories features young women who are brought to unbearable heights as alpha males unchain wild desires from deep within them. In this anthology, you will find: Victorian Domination A young woman blinks awake in the middle of the night to find that she wasn't in her room. Then, she realizes she's in the middle of Victorian London. Lord Theodore Angus is eccentric, powerful, and irrationally possessive. So, when she appears in the middle of his estate, it's only natural that he thinks of her as his property. 'That does not mean I belong to you!' 'Yes. Yes, it does.' The Duke of Wicked Elizabeth is certain that the rumors about the Duke of Wicked are completely fabricated. After all, she has encountered him before. He is courteous, intelligent, and gentlemanly, nothing like the perverse rumors suggest. Even so, she finds herself being inexplicably drawn to him. It is only when she finds herself bound spreadeagle to his bed that she realizes just how misplaced her trust in him is. Scandalous Heiress Josephine is stubborn, decisive, and adamant to not get married before she finds the man she loves. Enter Nicholas and Edward Black, cousins with only one thing in common: They both want her. Will she end up with the playful and dashing Nicholas, or the ever-serious and handsome William? Who said she had to choose just one? Unchained Desires Anne Mitchell isn't a stranger to carnal desires. After all, she's employed in the House of Lust, where pleasure and pain are all in the day's work. When two black alpha males walk into the house and pay for an hour of her time, she quickly finds out that she just needed the right kind of domination. Anthony and Dante know their ways around toys. More importantly, they know exactly what they want to do with Anne to make her scream. Biker's Chains I woke up in chains, my body covered in bruises I didn't remember getting. My wrists were bound behind my back and my ankles shackled to a metal rode three feet apart, keeping my legs spread wide. I didn't believe Adam when he told me his love for me was forever. I was going to pay dearly for that. It has been four years since the worst day of Mia's life. She wants to put the past behind her and move on, but the past has a way of catching up to people. There was no running away this time... Beach Surrender College student Callie Smith thinks her dominating professor and boyfriend is just taking her on a relaxing holiday by the beach. She couldn't have been more wrong. After undressing her in an airplane with the help of a complete stranger, he hogties her in the middle of a beach and walks away. She finds herself completely at the mercy of the nameless strangers around her and it doesn't take long for the beachgoers to start doing more than look... If you're into steamy short stories with hot alpha males, then these six unapologetically sexy stories are perfect for you. Step right in...
